Do's and Don'ts
Don't take your dog food out of the bag and pour into a plastic container! Keep in in its' original bag always. The bags are lined to protect the food. Plastic holds bacteria and it can be deadly for your dog if kept in plastic!
Don't use plastic bowls for water or food ever! Use stainless steel only! This will eliminate bacteria growth.
Do wash your pets bowls in hot water daily!
Don't ever leave your dog's collar or harness on them when you are not home or when they are wrestling with other dogs. These can be hazards especially when in a cage!
Don't leave anything near around or on your pets cage! They can reach through the cage and get seriously hurt or sick from chewing anything they can reach from the cage. Also don't leave anything in the cage that they can choke on. Toys, ext.
Don't feed rawhides!!!! These are extremely dangerous especially for puppies. They are nothing more than choke hazards. I buy my adult dog the hug rawhide that is rolled and only made in America and is always supervised when chewing it.
Don't feed your dog cheap food or cheap treats! Example... Milk bones are nothing but flour. They are cheap but they will make your dog fat and cause fatty tumors. Stick with high quality meat based foods and treats!!!!! Not just the food but the treats as well!! Learn what Bi- products are and ext...
Do socialize your dog. This is something I am a firm believer in and is extremely important for your dog and everyone around it.
Don't leave your dog more than 6 hours without having someone let it outside while you are at work. Leave your neighbors keys and text them to go let them out. They won't mind. Most people will praise you for this.
Don't shave your dogs fur down too much in the summer. This fur is meant to cool them as well as warm them. (especially Siberian Huskies)
Do purchase a light for your dog's collar for night time. This is wonderful for keeping track of your dog when out! I prefer a little light that clips on to the collar instead of the actual light up collars.
Don't forget to dry out your dogs ears after baths with a dry wash cloth around your finger. They will get ear infections!!!!!
Do bake dog treats then pass them around to the neighbors with a print of the recipe!
Do use Garbanzo Bean Flour in all dog treat recipes instead of any other flour. This is pure protein. Find it online!!!!!!!!
Do put a towel down on the bottom of the bath tub for a anti slippage for your dog while bathing.
Do buy your dog a dog! They will be happier, live longer and it will actually be easier on you than you think. They will entertain themselves.
Do leave classical music playing for your dogs while away. This calms them. 90.9 is great in Michigan!
Do start your dog early with a doggie day! This prevents issues when you do need to leave them at a day care later! They will learn to love it and actually look forward to it if you start it young!
Don't let your dog chew on sandy muddy tennis balls or play catch with them. This I did not know and now my dog's teeth are filled down like sand paper to the point where you can see a brown dot of a root. This happen slowly over time and was not noticeable during the happening. Dog parks are always where this happens. Its all sandy dirt with tennis balls everywhere.

Don't
scold your dog for what they did while you were gone. Especially right when you get home. They will eventually get scared of you walking in the door when you get home for life! If you want to show them what they did and say "no" do it a few minutes later. Never right when you get home. They will think when you get home its trouble time for life. Even when they get older.

Do get sticky carpet for hard wood floors and stairs especially!!! This will save your dog from not only breaking a leg or a hip but helps prevent the hips from loosening later. They slip and slide and its TERRIBLE for their legs later. Get the non slip rugs, runners and stair carpet... I promise you will save your dog from a hard life later with problems.
